IMG_0140On Thursday 19 January members of the St Chris choir in both the Junior and Senior Schools travelled to the O2 Arena to take part in Young Voices – a huge concert bringing together young people from all over the UK to sing.

The choir spent the day rehearsing 20 songs with over 7,500 other young people before performing that same evening to family and friends:

Here’s what they thought:

“The trip to the O2 Arena was amazing! The atmosphere was spectacular and there was about 7,500 children performing at once. We arrived early to have lunch and find our seats. When we started to rehearse we went through the order of what we will be singing and the conductor was really nice. When it came to the actual performance me and my friends were dancing all the way through as well as singing. As I said previously it was simply amazing and I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves singing.” Ellen, Year 7 (I Group)

“My first Young Voices experience was amazing, to say the least! It was really great fun: Singing, dancing, clapping, hanging out with other crazy children. Being in Year 11 I was definitely one of the oldest there. Despite this, I was not too old for Young Voices. In fact, Young Voices offered me the perfect chance to unwind; it was a much-needed break from the stresses of GCSEs. Behind the fantastic acts and choreography, the atmosphere was relaxed; I was free to do whatever crazy dance moves I wished. I am really glad I signed up; I want to do it next year. Thank you Young Voices!” Tom, Year 11 (V Group)

Music teacher Ann-Marie Knight said: “We had a great night performing in the Young Voices concert. I can’t think of anything more exciting than watching thousands of children singing their hearts out having what some described as ‘the best night of their life’. Well done St Chris choir…you worked really hard and did yourselves and your teachers proud!”
