Last week on Thursday 4th May, Senior School pupils participated in a Cuban and African music workshop headed up by Justin Thurgur and friends. Followed by a concert whereby students performed alongside the professional musicians, the event was a celebration and appreciation of the cultural diversity of London and its surrounding areas.

The Jazz family comprised of: Dele Sosimi on keys and vocals; Javier Camilo on vocals and percussion; Kishon Khan on keys; Frank Portuoundo on baby bass; Nick Walters on trumpet; and Pat Illingworth on drums. Students thoroughly enjoyed being coached by the musicians in the workshop, concentrating on creating original pieces written by the musicians.

Justin, when not at St Chris, is performing extensively. He travels all over the world and has played at major venues and festivals across the UK. Just to give you a taste; this includes Glastonbury, Shambala, Latitude, Secret Garden Party, V Festival, and the Royal Albert Hall.

The students practised the ensemble together after each in turn perfecting their parts. The concert, which took place after school in the School Theatre, was a great success.
