International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated annually around the world on 8 March. IWD celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender equity. This year’s theme is ‘Embrace Equity’. As well as an IWD Morning Talk with inspiring readings and singing from St Chris students, staff organised a collaborative ‘Wishing Tree’ installation to mark the day. Students and staff wrote about an influential woman in their lives and added their wishes, pledges and hopes for gender equity to the branches of a tree in the courtyard, along with coloured ribbons to represent women from around the world, who may not have a voice. The Tree symbolises the collective voices of many people across the St Chris community. Happy International Women’s Day from us all.
