In the past two weeks we have seen Years 10 and 11 competing in our Bake Off.
Year 11 had the task of making the best Swiss Roll – a difficult challenge as you are relying on whisking the eggs enough for the cake to rise, if you get it wrong you end up with a pancake!  The students all ‘rose’ to the challenge (pun intended!):
  • Bertie, Charlie and Ted (Anne’s Company) made a Unicorn, pink, sparkly Swiss Roll
  • Tom (Rebecca’s Company) make a tricolour Swiss Roll with a buttercream, strawberry and honeycomb icing; and
  • Noah and Cameron (Emma’s Company) made a cinnamon cake and toffee icing Swiss Roll
Great fun (and mess) was made, the judging as always was tricky but it was decided that Noah and Cameron would win and go through to the Grand Final.
Year 10 had the task of making the best bread and we were impressed with the teams’ organisation, enthusiasm and high skill level:
  • Art, Matthew and Jesse (Colin’s Company) made traditional American cinnamon rolls with a maple dressing
  • Charlie, Thomas, Frankie and Isaac (Lizzie’s Company) made three different types of focaccias – fresh pesto & mozzarella; balsamic & caramelised onion; and tomato & basil
  • Sorcha, Rose, CeCe, and May (Andrew and Cyrille’s Company) made cinnamon buns with an enriched dough
  • Stella, Summer and Bertie (Simon’s Company) made garlic and herb rolls with a sour cream herb and chive dip (herbs from Summer’s garden)
I was very grateful to have lots of judges helping to decide the winner (Cordy, Byron, Andrew, Lizzie, Ros and Karen!)  – it was so tough to decide who to put through to the final as they all were so delicious and the standard was higher than ever.  Eventually and decision was made that Andrew and Cyrille’s Company would go through to the final. Well done girls!
