We are delighted to be relaunching our Arundale Lecture series following a Covid enforced break with a talk by author Professor Jules Pretty on Thursday 20 October.

Jules will address the climate emergency and how its impact will extend further than previously believed. The talk will also feature material from his new book, Sea Sagas of the North.

Jules is Professor of Environment and Society at the University of Essex and Director of the Centre for Public and Policy Engagement. He is also currently a trustee for WWF-UK, was appointed President of Essex Wildlife Trust in 2019, and is Chair of the Essex Climate Action Commission.

He has also been a presenter of the BBC Radio 4 series Ploughing Eden and a panellist on Radio 4’s The Moral Maze. He is among the top 0.1% most cited scientists in the world (700 out of 70,000), and is host of the popular podcast Louder Than Words.

His sole-authored books include Sea Sagas of the North (2022), The Low-Carbon Good Life (forthcoming, 2023), The East Country (2017), The Edge of Extinction (2014), This Luminous Coast (2011, 2014), The Earth Only Endures (2007), Agri-Culture (2002) and Regenerating Agriculture (1995).

This Luminous Coast was winner of New Angle Prize for Literature in 2013, and The East Country was winner of the East Anglian book of the year in 2018.
