This year’s Sports Day, like so many other events, needed to be different.  To ensure the year group bubbles could be maintained safely and to maximise the participation of the students, we changed the format to have a carousel of three games rotations and finished with some relays. It was a shame not to be able to include more of the traditional athletics events, but everyone has reported how great it was to see so many students involved at any one time!

There were strong team performances from the students in all years: the most consistent performers were Lytton House – championed by new Head of House, Joe Sapsford –  always coming that (frustrating!) second place in all events; with Godwin House  – cheered on by another inaugural Head of House, Sarah Davies – achieving wins in the Netball and Dodgeball.  But it was the convincing performances of the yellow Gernon teams in football, rounders and the relays who aptly took home the overall Gold!

Overall results were:

  • Godwin: 3rd with 279 points
  • Lytton 2nd with 320 points,
  • Gernon 1st taking home the Gold convincingly this year with 414 points!

The success of the day was the product of a significant team effort, involving all departments and staff from across the whole Senior School, and one where everyone worked together to make it work so well.

So, a HUGE thanks to Alison and her Housekeeping team for keeping students ‘sanitiser safe’; to the James and the Grounds and Maintenance teams for the immaculate (and set-up) field and play areas; to Sophie for all the printing and collation of the paperwork; to Anna and Paul for helping with the equipment; to the Adviser and SLT Teams for looking after their students and ushering them to the different events so smoothly during the day; to all the staff thrown in at the deep end to help with officiating or scoring; to the Maths Minds of Claire and Simran for collating the overall results; to Rhiannon for photographing the day; to Linda for her role in triage; to the Heads of  House for compering; to Mike for hooking up the PA system so they could compere! and to Ann-Marie for her playlist; to the Parents Circle for the students’ ice lolly treats and…a MASSIVE thanks to PE Department for leading their respective events, overseeing the day and bringing all the component parts together.
