Positions of Responsibility at St Chris: Where Leadership Thrives
St Chris nurtures the leadership potential of students, instilling a strong sense of responsibility.
Within our Sixth Form, we offer an array of school positions of responsibility, providing numerous opportunities for students to shape their educational journey and make a positive impact on the school community.
From becoming an active participant on the St Chris School Council, having a wealth of student leadership opportunities at your feet, and other Sixth-Form Responsibility Roles available, our Sixth Form pupils are given the opportunity to be stretched and challenged. Students lead and initiate impactful changes within the school, both academically and in student life, emphasising the values that define St Chris.
Major Officials: Guiding the St Chris School Council and Beyond
Our commitment to nurturing responsible and accountable leaders is embodied by our School Council, run by dedicated Year 12 pupils who hold positions termed Major Officials. These students lead school-wide discussions, oversee meetings involving the entire student body, and moderate engaging debates on various school-related topics. The School Council forms the cornerstone of student-led initiatives, with Major Officials driving change and innovation within the school. These Sixth Form Responsibility Roles shoulder a range of essential tasks that greatly impact our school community.
The Major Officials also spearhead various committees, like Events and Fundraising, Be Green (our environmental committee), and the Food Committee. These committees play a pivotal role in initiating impactful changes within our school, whether it's organising the Summer Ball or pioneering eco-friendly practices that significantly reduce our environmental footprint. Here at St Chris, our students know that responsibility goes hand in hand with accountability and influence, shaping their development as responsible leaders.
Peer Mentors: Nurturing Young Minds
Peer Mentors are a group of Sixth Form students who are trained to work as mentors to younger pupils in both the Senior and Junior Schools. Offering friendship, advice and encouragement. It’s a valued role that fosters responsibility, empathy and connection across year groups.
These Sixth Form students volunteer to become Peer Mentors at the start of Lower Sixth (Year 12) and continue in this role throughout their time in Sixth Form. The Assistant Head (Sixth Form) provides comprehensive training to ensure they are well-equipped for the task. The programme is an essential aspect of the school, allowing students to contribute to the entire school community and witness first-hand the profound impact they can have on their peers.
Leadership Roles Across St Chris
St Chris offers numerous ways for students to embrace leadership roles beyond the roles of Major Official and Peer Mentor. These opportunities span various co-curricular groups, including sports teams, music ensembles, and community service initiatives. Students can also participate in leadership roles by helping to organiSe and supervise lunchtime activities for the Senior School.
Additionally, the Leadership Opportunities at our boarding school are unique, and many Sixth Form pupils opt to increase their level of responsibility this way. The responsibilities that come with being a leader in a boarding school setting encourage personal growth and development. This environment fosters not only academic excellence but also responsibility for oneself and others.
