Junior School Co-Curricular
At St Chris Junior School, we believe that nurturing young minds extends far beyond the confines of the classroom.
Our co-curricular programme helps students discover their strengths, pursue their passions, and develop the confidence to try something new. Through a rich mix of clubs, trips, creative projects and leadership opportunities, pupils build friendships, learn life skills, and grow into curious, capable and caring individuals.
Our aim is simple: to inspire, engage and empower each student — helping them to develop not only academically, but personally, socially and creatively.
Democracy in Action
At St Chris, every child has a voice. The Junior School Council gives students the opportunity to shape school life, with elected representatives from each class meeting regularly to share ideas, discuss initiatives and make positive changes. The Council ensures that every student can contribute, be heard and see the impact of their ideas in action.
Eco Council
Caring for our planet is central to life at St Chris. As part of the Eco Schools programme, our Eco Council is made up of peer-elected members who serve for half a year. They lead green initiatives and conduct environmental reviews. From reducing waste and saving energy to introducing initiatives like a junk modelling bin and the ban on glitter, our pupils lead real change — learning that small actions can make a big difference.
In September 2025, St Chris successfully achieve the Eco-Schools Green Flag award with Distinction, thanks to the work of its Junior School Eco Council and Be Green Lead - Lydia Somerville. This accomplishment recognises the school's efforts in environmental education and sustainability.
Junior School Librarians
Our Junior School Librarians, drawn from Years 4 to 6, play an important role in nurturing a love of reading across the school. These enthusiastic volunteers manage book loans, help with displays, and run initiatives such as Storytime with the Librarians and Book of the Fortnight recommendations. Their efforts help make our library a welcoming, inspiring space for every reader.
Trips and Visits
Our location on the edge of Letchworth Garden City offers the best of both worlds — close to London, Cambridge and historic Hertfordshire towns, yet surrounded by open countryside and parkland. Each term, pupils enjoy at least one class trip, bringing learning to life through hands-on experiences, cultural exploration and adventure.

Students from Year 3 also take part in an annual residential trip each year.
Clubs and Activities
At St Chris Junior School, learning is a holistic journey that extends into every aspect of daily life. Our extensive programme of after-school clubs offers something for everyone — from sport, music and drama to coding, cookery and creative arts. These activities encourage students to collaborate, play, and explore new interests, helping them to develop confidence, independence and resilience.
We believe the skills learned and the joy found through co-curricular life are vital to a happy and balanced education.
Sports Fixtures
Sport plays an important role in school life at St Chris. Students take part in regular fixtures throughout the year, including football and netball in the autumn and spring terms, and rounders and cricket in the summer. Every child has the opportunity to represent the school, develop teamwork and enjoy the spirit of friendly competition.

Music, Drama and LAMDA
Performing arts thrive at St Chris. Alongside our curriculum music and drama lessons, pupils can take individual or small-group lessons with our talented visiting teachers.
We are also delighted to offer weekly on-site LAMDA training — the UK’s leading Speech and Drama qualification. LAMDA lessons help students to express themselves with confidence, nurture their creativity, and develop communication skills that will benefit them for life.

Celebrating The Arts
Creativity is at the heart of our curriculum. From painting and sculpture to mixed media and design, our Junior School art programme encourages students to explore, experiment and express themselves.
Students' work is celebrated through exhibitions, inter-school collaborations and initiatives such as the annual Recycled Fashion Show, which champions sustainability through creativity. In this supportive environment, every child can find their artistic voice and take pride in their creations.
