St Chris is seeking a Head of Drama (Maternity Cover, 0.7 FTE or open to discussion for additional hours) to lead and promote excellence within our vibrant department, which sits at the heart of school life. Drama at St Chris has a proud tradition of high-quality productions and an inclusive ethos that encourages every student to participate, whether on stage or behind the scenes, fostering creativity, confidence and collaboration through performance. The successful candidate will be a well-qualified teacher with QTS and a relevant degree, possessing the enthusiasm to inspire a love of learning and the ability to manage a team of dedicated staff. You will oversee a dynamic curriculum from Year 7 through to AQA GCSE Drama, as well as teach AQA A Level Theatre Studies and BTEC Performing Arts. Teaching is supported by excellent facilities, including a purpose-built theatre and a professional-standard dance studio. A central part of the role involves upholding the school’s rich history of exceptional productions, including major annual musicals like Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, Shrek, and Aladdin, while also supporting the wider life of the school, including our on-site LAMDA Examination Centre and the technical “Wombles” crew. The Head of Drama's responsibilities also include curriculum leadership, budget management, and contributing to the school’s pastoral and co-curricular programmes, ensuring Drama at St Chris continues to thrive creatively and academically.
