Learning for Life: Independent Sixth Form Education at St Chris
St Chris is renowned for its indivi approach to learning.
Joining St Chris Sixth Form
For current St Chris pupils, preparation for Sixth Form begins in Year 11 through an Information Evening and tailored guidance from the PSHE programme, Head of Year and Company Adviser. Students explore subject interests, career goals and university aspirations, ensuring that their choices reflect both passion and purpose.
For students joining from other schools, we offer personalised tours and meetings with the Assistant Head (Sixth Form) and relevant Heads of Department. This bespoke approach ensures every new student feels informed and supported before joining in September.
The Induction Programme
A two-week induction programme at the start of Year 12 helps new Sixth Formers settle in — academically and socially. This includes the Lower Sixth Induction Conference, subject introductions and bonding activities such as a short residential trip. It’s a warm welcome that helps everyone feel part of the St Chris community from day one.
Careers & Higher Education
Our dedicated Futures Programme provides ongoing careers and university guidance, including one-to-one mentoring, talks from visiting speakers, and trips to universities and UCAS events. All students also have access to Unifrog, the leading careers and application platform, which helps them research courses, careers and opportunities both in the UK and abroad.
Progress and Tracking
The dedicated Sixth Form team at St Chris are there to support pupils every step of the way to ensure that their transition is a successful one.
Throughout their time Sixth Form, pupils receive regular feedback and guidance about their progress from subject teachers. Each pupil is also involved weekly in reviewing their progress with their Personal Tutor.
Personal Tutors, the Heads of Year and Assistant Head (Sixth Form) are all available to support students who may be experiencing problems, alongside school counsellors if appropriate. Any issues or concerns are sensitively and thoroughly discussed with students and parents. Student support is on-going and comprehensive.
Each year parents receive two interim reports and two full reports. There are also two Parents’ Consultations when subject teachers and personal tutors are available for one-to-one meetings. Pupils are encouraged to attend these meetings along with their parents or guardians.
All departments and subjects offer opportunities to support and extend pupil’s learning beyond the classroom. These are often at lunchtime or after school, and in some cases, such as for A-level 3D Design, at weekends.
