Junior School Curriculum
In the Junior School, we embark on a journey with your child - a journey of curiosity, creativity, and continuous learning.
Our curriculum is meticulously crafted to foster not just academic excellence but to instil a love for learning that will accompany children throughout their lives.
Topic-Based Approach
Our Junior School adopts a topic-based approach to learning, developing a curriculum that encompasses literacy, maths, science, art, humanities, and personal social, health, and economic education (PSHCE). Recent topics have transported our students to places like India, the vast dimensions of outer space, the Viking era, Africa, and the rainforests.
Core Subjects and Beyond
In a typical week, our students delve deep into the core subjects—English, mathematics, and science. But the richness of our curriculum extends far beyond, embracing art, music, French, humanities, PSHCE, computing, and physical education. Each subject is an integral thread in the fabric of our well-rounded education, designed to nurture not just academic prowess but also holistic development. No matter what a child’s interests, they can find it or enhance it at St Chris.
Transition to Senior School
A confident step forward
Moving from the Junior School to the Senior School is an exciting milestone in every student's journey at St Chris. It marks the beginning of new friendships, broader horizons, and fresh opportunities to explore and grow.
Support every step of the way
We recognise that this transition is both exciting and significant. That’s why we make sure every student – and their family – feels supported and understood throughout the process. From Year 5 onwards, students begin a carefully planned programme of activities and events designed to help them feel comfortable, connected, and ready for the next stage.
A world of opportunity
In the Senior School, students are introduced to a wider range of subjects, inspiring new interests and nurturing existing passions. Alongside academic growth, they’ll develop independence, responsibility, and confidence through leadership roles, collaborative projects, and a rich variety of extracurricular opportunities in sport, art, music, and drama.
A seamless and supported journey
Our experienced team works closely with families to ensure that each pupil’s transition is smooth, positive, and filled with encouragement. From the first introduction to the Senior School to those important first few days, we are here to guide and support every individual.
At St Chris, the move to Senior School is more than a change of classroom – it’s the start of a journey towards self-discovery, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
