Welcome to the Nursery
Hello from Chrissie Parry, the St Chris Nursery Teacher.
Hello, I’m Chrissie Parry, Nursery Teacher here at St Chris. I’m delighted to introduce you to our caring and inspiring pre-school community.
Set within the heart of our Junior School, and surrounded by 25 acres of green space in Letchworth Garden City, our Nursery is a place where curiosity thrives, imaginations flourish, and each child is nurtured as an individual.
Our Nursery is led by an experienced teacher and a team of skilled Early Years professionals who are deeply passionate about child development. Together, they create a safe and joyful environment, enriched by specialist teaching in Forest School, music, and swimming. Even at this early stage, children are encouraged to explore new skills, discover their interests, and express themselves with confidence.
At the heart of the Nursery is a space where children aged rising 3 to 4 begin their learning journey. Many of our children go on to join St Chris Junior School, carrying with them a genuine love of learning that begins here.
Our approach is rooted in open play and free-flow learning, guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and enhanced with a variety of proven early childhood practices. The flexibility of our independent setting allows us to tailor learning to the needs of each child, blending gentle structure with freedom.
At St Chris, we believe that play is not separate from learning — it is learning. Through play, children develop creativity, problem-solving skills, independence, and the social and emotional foundations they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Inside Learning Space |
---|
Our Nursery is set across a series of bright, free-flow rooms designed to spark curiosity and independence. All resources are easily accessible, encouraging children to make choices, explore freely, and take ownership of their learning. The open classroom layout allows children to move seamlessly between welcoming indoor spaces and our outdoor learning areas throughout the day. This flexibility means they can follow their own interests, develop confidence at their own pace, and enjoy a rich variety of experiences. Sensory exploration, imaginative play, and collaborative activities are woven into daily life. Within this calm and supportive environment, children feel safe to take risks, try new things, and grow in independence and self-belief. |
Outside Learning Space |
Our Nursery has its own dedicated garden — a safe, enclosed space where children can play, explore, and connect with the natural world. The garden includes a sandpit, vegetable patch, and large-scale play equipment, alongside an age-appropriate climbing frame, slide, and tree swing. It’s a place full of energy and discovery. From planting and nurturing vegetables to developing balance and coordination on the climbing frame, children learn through hands-on experiences. And on any given day, you’ll often see our youngest learners whizzing around on their bikes, enjoying the freedom of outdoor play. |

A Place for Early Explorers
Our Nursery is where curiosity takes root, friendships grow, and children begin to see themselves as capable, confident learners. Each day is filled with opportunities to explore, imagine, and discover — with plenty of joy and laughter along the way.
Facilities in the Nursery

Students in the Nursery have access to a wide variety of resources and take part in group and individual tasks, building up the time taken per task over the duration of their time at Nursery.
As part of the transition process into the Nursery, we invite children and their parents to attend Settle Sessions.
Children in the Nursery benefit from specialist teaching in PE, swimming at our on-site pool, forest school, and music!
St Chris offers Forest School sessions for all Nursery children. Within these session, students are encouraged to take supported risks, think creatively, and explore the outdoor world.
Children enjoy a one-hour lesson per week at our on-site swimming pool, guided by specialist swimming teachers.
A day in the Nursery is guided by the children's interests, ideas, and suggestions. This helps to create an exciting environment where children are keen to share their interests with their peers.
Discover our Curriculum
At St Chris, every child’s voice matters. Our curriculum is shaped not only by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) but also by the interests, ideas and discoveries of the children themselves. If something captures their curiosity, we adapt and weave it into their learning — making every day feel exciting and relevant to them.
