St Christopher School has a long tradition of welcoming and teaching students from around the world
We welcome students from around the world from Year 7 (age 12) upwards. They may join in Years 7, 8, 9 or, if their English is at an appropriate level, Year 10. For students with an appropriate command of the English language entry directly onto A-level courses is possible in Year 12.
Location and Facilities
The School is situated just 30 minutes from both central London and Cambridge; it has excellent transport links and is within easy reach of all the London airports. We occupy a beautiful, 38-acre campus in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire.
Our purpose-built facilities include teaching classrooms, art studios, design workshops, a theatre, photographic darkrooms, a climbing wall and a skatepark. There are excellent sports facilities too: a 25-metre indoor swimming pool; all-weather tennis courts; a sports hall and gym; and playing fields with pitches for football, rugby and rounders.
The Programme of Study
Students may enter a broad educational programme in Years 7, 8 or 9 or a two-year GCSE programme in Year 10. There is also the opportunity to study a one-year programme of limited GCSEs. For Sixth Form students there is a two-year A-level programme. All lessons are delivered by experienced and specialist teachers, and English as an Additional Language (EAL) lessons leading to English qualifications are also available. The academic courses are supported by a wide range of evening and weekend activities; these provide a great opportunity to improve the students' language, as well as being a chance to learn more about Britain and to socialise in an enjoyable atmosphere. The overseas students will be part of St Christopher School and as such they will be immersed in a supportive and purposeful environment. We will provide them with an excellent education in a distinctive community that is unique in the UK. Subject to students making appropriate progress at GCSE they transfer to our Sixth Form. From there our Sixth Form students go on to study at top universities in the UK including Oxford and Cambridge.
Boarding and Pastoral Care
The School prides itself on an extensive and outstanding system of pastoral care. We have two boarding houses, each supervised by houseparents and resident staff who are committed to the welfare and happiness of their students and to providing a caring and supportive home for them while they are with us. The houses all enjoy a genuine family atmosphere and wireless internet access is available in the boarding houses and the School.
There are 12 places on the course available with a limited number from any one nationality. Each student will have a specialist personal tutor and will be taught by fully-qualified, highly experienced EAL teachers.
