Creative Careers Evening
Earlier this term, we were proud to welcome more than 50 creative practitioners to our annual Creative Careers Evening at St Chris School, Letchworth. This special event brings together experts from across the arts and creative industries to support our students as they explore future pathways.
The evening celebrated a wide range of disciplines, including architecture and interior design, film production, photography, fashion, costume and textiles, music, animation and VFX, illustration and graphics, publishing, writing and journalism, fine art, and the performing arts.
Our keynote speaker, broadcaster and podcaster Olly Mann, delivered an engaging and humorous talk, sharing his ten top tips for surviving a creative career and encouraging students to stay adaptable, edit their work carefully, and remain open to collaboration.
Students also heard from an inspiring panel of professionals, including Jason Watkins, acclaimed stage and screen actor; Greg Burne, Managing Director of Big Active; creative directors Carl Burgess and Wendy Benstead; shoe designer Rupert Sanderson; and social content creator Jack Hyslop. Each shared honest, first-hand insight into building a career in the creative world.
“Our Creative Careers Evening is about widening horizons and levelling opportunities. Meeting practitioners face to face and hearing honest stories helps young people explore possibilities they may never have considered and see that routes into the arts and creative industries can be for them too. We wanted the evening to spark curiosity, invite questions, and leave people thinking more expansively about what could be possible.”
Participating schools, colleges, and universities included Buckinghamshire New University, Egerton Rothesay School, Fearnhill School, Hills Road Sixth Form College, Hitchin Girls’ School, North Hertfordshire College, The Knights Templar School, and The Priory School, Hitchin.
Our Creative Careers Evening forms part of our wider commitment to recognising each young person as an individual. By creating opportunities like this, we aim to help them understand their strengths and explore pathways that reflect both their interests and their ambitions.
