This week, I to III Group (Year 7 to Year 9) students put down their pens for No Pens Day and explored the curriculum through skill sets associated with oracy – a term coined in the 1960s most simply defined as the ability to express oneself fluently and grammatically in speech.

In a world where utilising the spoken word is ever declining, it is important to remember the benefits and joys that this type of communication brings. In an ever-evolving digital society, how often do we socialise on our phones rather than in person? As a school, we are conscious that, even sitting in each other’s company, we can all too often be consumed in our ‘virtual’ worlds rather than in the real one.
