Spirits were high on Friday 20 September as alumni graduating from 2007 to 2024 attended the school today to take on the fierce competition of our Sixth Form team in a competitive football match.
The day was a brilliant effort from staff, students, and alumni to raise bursary and scholarship funds for St Chris. With over 60 alumni in attendance, with some playing and some spectating, it was brilliant to see teachers and staff engaging in lively conversations about their lives post-St Chris. There were many friendly tackles, and skilful play was in full swing, with the crowd being slightly tamer than that a typical football match.
Gifted the September sun, all teams brought their all as they fought to win the Alumni Football Tournament trophy. In the end, our Year 12 (Lower Sixth) team took home the trophy. However, that didn’t thwart spirits as everyone – alumni, boarders, and football players alike – attended the Governor’s Lawn to enjoy a BBQ. Students smiled as they met peers whom have recently left the school, alongside those in careers and paths they are aspiring to. Beyond the friendly competition, our existing students found themselves talking to a diverse range of alumni and found these conversations impactful and insightful about life beyond St Chris.
The day was arranged by an orchestra of staff, with James See, Second in PE, leading the charge, supported by Lyn McGregor, Head of PE, the Grounds Team, Marketing Team, and Emma Roskilly (Assistant Head, Co-Curricular).
“It was fantastic to see such a great turnout of Sixth Form students and alumni for the inaugural Alumni Football Tournament and BBQ on Friday. Their was an incredible atmosphere, where current and former students came together, reconnecting and sharing their fond memories of St Chris.
On the field, we were treated to not only impressive displays of skill and passion but also a remarkable sense of sportsmanship and teamwork from all participants. There was some outstanding team and individual performances, with many moments of unity and teamwork both on and off the pitch. A special congratulations to the Lower Sixth Form team for emerging as champions!
This event was a true celebration of the St Chris community, and we are already excited for next year’s tournament.“ James See
