For children, the impact of COVID has, among other things, seen a dramatic move to a more virtual life, with a rise in screen time and being online, for school work as well as for social and entertainment purposes.
To help support parents and carers during this period, we have organised a talk by online safety expert Karl Hopwood, who is returning to St Chris to give two talks for parents – one for parents of younger children, and one for parents of older children. Please see below for details.
Karl will discuss online safety during the COVID crisis including the impact of screen time, giving practical advice about what parents can do to help their children navigate successfully during this time. He is an excellent and informative speaker and will also be on hand to answer questions with a Q&A at the end of the talk.
Karl Hopwood has worked for a number of key players in the UK and abroad including CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre), BECTA (British Educational and Communications Technology Agency), the European Commission and several Local Authorities within the UK.
He is also a member of UKCCIS (UK Council for Child Internet Safety) and sits on the advisory board for the UK Safer Internet Centre and the education advisory board for CEOP.
This talk, from 6.00 – 7.00pm, is aimed at parents and carers who have children of Junior School age (age 4 – 11).
A talk later in the evening is aimed at parents of older children.
The event will take place via Microsoft Teams.
