The EU referendum
Friday 24 June 2016
To say that this morning’s news is a disappointment would be an understatement. Like many I was stunned but what really struck me were the age profiles of those voting in and out.
I was firmly of the opinion that we should remain within the EU. I believe that the result is a mistake for our Country. However, we need to reflect – this was the will of the people and, as we know at St Chris self-government is not always easy. We also know that making mistakes is not a problem if one uses it as an opportunity to grow. It was James Joyce who said "A man's errors are his portals of discovery." So let’s do that. Let’s come together and grow through this. Grow as a Nation that welcomes and accepts people from other countries and cultures. Let’s grow as a Nation with a strong and effective opposition to hold whoever Governs to account. Let’s grow as a Nation that speaks Truth to Power and let’s grow as a Nation that respects the views of our young people.
