The huge range of opportunities we offer enriches life at St Chris.
Extra-curricular activities help to develop essential skills of self-discipline, leadership and the ability to work as part of a team.
Our popular Thursday afternoon Options Programme is part of the school curriculum and gives pupils an opportunity to try something new. Groups are formed across age ranges and abilities from Years 7-13.
Options include Amnesty International, Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Community Service, Climbing, Philosophy, Technical Theatre skills, Self-Defence and the Sports Leader's Award.
There is also an activities programme during lunchtimes and after school. Activities offered include Yoga, Pottery, Canoeing, Chi Gung, Fitness Training and sessions to provide additional support in a number of curriculum subjects.
A practical commitment to global issues has always been a central value of the School.
Our Sixth Form Students visit Rajasthan (twice a year) and Kosovo. Students in Years 10/11 can take part in an expedition to Ladakh (Indian Himalayas). Their aim is purposeful involvement with local communities.
In Rajasthan we have formed links with several schools and NGOs (Non-Government Organisations) and St Christopher has helped to develop teaching and learning materials for our partners.
Our annual Summer School for War Orphans in Kosovo, delivered jointly with Kosovan High School students, has also been very successful.
The expedition to Ladakh is bi-annual and involves a ten-day Himalayan trek as well as close co-operation with Druk White Lotus School in Shey.
All these programmes are organised and run by school staff and give participants invaluable insight into global citizenship. At St Christopher’s Summer Fair in June and in events throughout the school year, pupils of the school raise money for and awareness of our partners in India and Kosovo.
Recently, the School’s international commitment has drawn the attention and support of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, with whom further joint initiatives are planned.
Our educational visits programme is, we believe, highly distinctive. Besides our many curriculum-based field trips, our programme of visits in the UK and abroad can include language exchange trips to France and Spain, two annual ski trips plus Art and Art History trips to Paris or Florence,. A number of end-of-year expeditions are available within our Late Summer programme.
Visits are organized according to our strict guidelines, to ensure that students and their families are fully informed. All due checks are carried out to ensure students' safety and enjoyment.
