On Tuesday, Reception celebrated the Lunar New Year of the Tiger.  They all came to school dressed in red, because red is considered a lucky colour in Chinese tradition. They did lots of different activities: writing numbers in Mandarin, making lucky Red envelopes (filled with ‘coins’ made by rubbing real pennies with yellow crayon); made happy new year banners using black paint and copying letters in Mandarin; and made flags of all the countries that are celebrating Lunar New Year as a national holiday.

They also made a vegetable stir fry: they chopped the vegetables, watched the dry noodles change to soft wet ones and cooked them on them on the stove with soy sauce – delicious!
