Science teachers Helen, David and Colin have started the acids and alkalis topic with Year 7 (I Group).

Pupils converted their kitchens into science laboratories, testing household substances to see how acid or alkali they are.

Food became the materials for chemistry, with red cabbages and beetroots across Hertfordshire donating their pigments for an at-home practical session!

The teachers said: “We’ve been impressed with the enthusiasm Year 7 have shown as well as the impressive results they’ve obtained from their homemade indicators. Very well done.  A big well done to all the classes, but please don’t ask us to do the washing up!”

Here are some photos of the results!  Thank you to Arjun, Gabriel, Eshani, Ben, Mia, Sonny and Tom for sending in their pictures.
