Curricular and Extra-Curricular Activities
A practical commitment to global issues has always been a central value of the School.
Our Sixth Form Students visit Rajasthan (twice a year) and Kosovo. Students in Years 10/11 can take part in an expedition to Ladakh (Indian Himalayas). Their aim is purposeful involvement with local communities.
In Rajasthan we have formed links with several schools and NGOs (Non-Government Organisations) and St Christopher has helped to develop teaching and learning materials for our partners.
Our annual Summer School for War Orphans in Kosovo, delivered jointly with Kosovan High School students, has also been very successful.
The expedition to Ladakh is bi-annual and involves a ten-day Himalayan trek as well as close co-operation with Druk Pema School in Shey.
All these programmes are organised and run by school staff and give participants invaluable insight into global citizenship. At St Christopher’s Summer Fair in June and in events throughout the school year, pupils of the school raise money for and awareness of our partners in India and Kosovo.
Recently, the School’s international commitment has drawn the attention and support of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, with whom further joint initiatives are planned.
A case study of the school’s international activities is available online through Global Gateway, the British Council’s site for Global Education, and the School aims to achieve the British Council’s “International School Award.”
