Curriculum

The Montessori curriculum is designed to develop independence through activities that encourage exploration, concentration, social interaction and movement. The curriculum covers five areas:

  • Practical Life (to develop co-ordination and self-esteem);
  • Sensorial (the refinement of sensory perceptions);
  • Cultural (art, science, music, plants, animals and people);
  • Language (using the Montessori phonetically-based system);
  • Mathematics (enjoyable activities to help children move from concrete to a more abstract understanding of numbers).

Individual and group-work are combined. Children can therefore work at their own pace, according to their individual strengths or difficulties. The emphasis is on doing real, practical tasks.

Our Montessori curriculum can be inspected by OFSTED as a condition of its registration in the Nursery Voucher scheme.
