boarding

The majority of students are day students, but the School accepts around 60, mainly weekly, boarders between the ages of 11-18. Students usually go home on a Friday after school, and return to School on Sunday evening or Monday morning.

As students and families lead busy lives, it is sometimes useful if students can board for the occasional night or a short period of time. Where space allows, we try to accommodate "flexi-boarding" requests.

Boarders in Years 7-11 live in Arundale, formerly Old House and Cloisters. Older boarders occupy Arunside, completely refurbished in 2007 as a dedicated Sixth Form boarding house. The vast majority of boarders have their own room. There is common room space in each house and boarders have access to many of the School's main facilities in the evening.

Boarding allows students to experience a communal life which they cannot have at home. They develop a capacity for tolerance, self-sufficiency and independence that will serve them well in later life. As boarding can be a very good staging-post between home and university, it has particular attractions at Sixth Form level.
