Application process
The School encourages families to visit, either on an Open Day, usually held 2 -3 times a year, including October and April, or on a private visit. In general, families can apply for entry at any time or any age, although some entry points are more common and often more advisable. Procedures for these entry points are as follows.
.. for the montessori nursery
The Nursery Manager is happy to welcome families to visit the Nursery. Visits can be arranged through the Registrar. A visit also includes an opportunity to meet Paul Mason, Head of the Junior School, and to tour the Junior School. If a place is available, an offer can be made very quickly. Settling-in visits will be made prior to a child starting at the Nursery.
.. for the junior school
After the initial visit, the child has an assessment in English and Maths, lasting around 45 minutes. This is carried out in a supportive and friendly atmosphere. After the assessment, parents have a meeting with the Junior School Head, which includes feedback on the tests.
Once the child's previous school reports and a confidential reference have been requested, an offer can be made.
.. for the senior school
Most students enter Year 7 or Year 9. An Assessment Day for these age groups is held in January. Students undertake Cognitive Ability Tests (Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Numerical) and a piece of extended writing.
In the days following the assessment, successful applicants are invited back for interview with the Head or Senior Staff. Together with previous school reports and a confidential reference, all this information forms the basis of decisions about offers.
.. for the sixth form
Admission is based on GCSE results and interview. The interview aims to explore the candidate's present GCSE courses, their aptitude for A level work and their extra-curricular interests. An offer of a place is always conditional on the candidate's performance at GCSE.
