Dear All

I hope that you enjoyed the Easter break and, if nothing else, the current deluge is refreshing your gardens.

Tomorrow is our Whole School Open Morning and many pupils have volunteered to come in and act as guides for our visitors, for which we are very grateful.  The morning starts at 9.30 am and will be finished by 1.00 pm.  You are, of course, most welcome to come along; perhaps to see parts of the School that you’ve not visited before.  Please also feel free to bring family, neighbours, friends and colleagues.

We are currently reviewing our policy on mobile phones in the Senior School.  As many of you will know I am a great fan of technology, particularly communication technology.  I do understand why some parents like their child to have a mobile phone and similarly I do understand why pupils like to have them.  Whether we like it or not they have become part of youth culture.  The advent of the ‘smart phone’ and the rise in instant messaging platforms combined with unlimited text and data deals means that usage has proliferated.  It may well be that at some time in the future these devices become invaluable aids to learning in the classroom, but at the moment that is not the case.  Currently, they can cause a distraction and we are working with staff and pupils to devise a policy that will ensure that this distraction is not present in class.  I will write again once we have completed our review to share our policy.  If you have any thoughts on this then please do get in touch with me at the email address below.

This term the finer weather (more in anticipation than reality?) means that for some children trips and expeditions are on their way and for others it means that the Summer public examination season is about to start.  These examinations are clearly crucial and the pupils and their teachers have put in a huge amount of preparation for them.  Please do be vigilant around the School for the ‘Quiet Please’ signs as the examinations often run out of normal School time.

Sports days, performances, productions, concerts, sing-a-longs, Summer fairs and salsa nights are all opportunities to get involved and support the work of the School.  I very much hope to see you at some, if not all of them!

On Friday 4 May we are having a whole School photograph taken. This will include all children at St Chris as well as all teaching and support staff.  This photograph only happens once every four years so we very much hope for full attendance on that day.

Finally, a reminder that Monday 7 May is a Bank Holiday and the School is closed on that day.

Yours

Richard Palmer
Head
