Governance Arrangements
2. DUTIES OF THE GOVERNORS
The duties of the Governors may be summarised as follows:
- Responsibility for the aims and values of the School. This means ensuring that the School retains its uniqueness while, at the same time, adapting to meet changing circumstances
- Responsibility for effective strategic planning and for approving and monitoring development plans
- Responsibility for monitoring the School's performance, both academic and otherwise
- Responsibility for appointing the Head and (in consultation with the Head) the Bursar and for setting their terms and remuneration and those of other members of the senior team
- Responsibility for establishing a close relationship with the Head and providing the necessary guidance and support to enable the Head to perform the Head's duties effectively
- Responsibility for the appraisal and performance management of the Head and of the Bursar
- Responsibility for the financial well-being of the School, for setting budgets and monitoring income and expenditure, cash flow and investments
- Responsibility for audit and risk management
- Responsibility for effective estate management
- Responsibility for ensuring that the School maintains its charitable status and fulfils its charitable objectives
- Responsibility for the School's employment policies and their implementation
- Responsibility for the health and safety of all those who are on the School's premises or who are engaged in school activities both on and off the campus.
- Responsibility for ensuring that the School treats pupils, staff and parents fairly and without discrimination and ultimate responsibility for hearing any appeals or complaints made alleging that this has not happened.
